I dont need easy, I need possible

Bethany Hamilton was 13 when she went surfing with some friends on the morning of October 31, 2003. Born into a surfing family, she is the talent of Hawaii. That fateful morning, her left arm was bitten off by a 15-foot tiger shark. She lost 60% of her blood but barely survived the attack. End of surfing career. Would you think…

It was a miracle in itself that she survived, but within 30 days of the attack she was back on a surfboard. While it was her passion that got her back on a surfboard, it was her persistence that taught herself to surf with one arm and made it to pro. Her motto? "I don't need easy, I need possible". Truly a wonderful story!
Who is born in winter…

In the Netherlands we often think that we cannot take a beating. All the pain and all that chafe has been managed away. Children invariably wear a helmet when they go cycling and are treated like little princes and princesses. As long as they don't have any discomfort! Just imagine if that happens. Then they become unhappy! But nothing is less true. A little setback, discomfort or pain does not make children unhappy, but makes them stronger. Those born in winter can withstand the cold well and those who want to be beautiful (inside) must suffer! If the Dutch just think of a shark, we are paralyzed with fear. Let alone looking at one straight in the mouth or being bitten by it.

Setbacks are therefore necessary to move forward as a person, team or company. To grow you have to take risks and be willing to endure pain. To get stronger you will have to feel the pain of 100 push ups. You can't fake that. To get fitter you will have to feel the pain of 21km in your legs and to get the job of your dreams you will have to be willing to endure the pain of rejection. Only then can you grow, evolve and innovate. And growth, evolution and innovation are at the heart of life. So it is not a choice, it is inevitable if we want to continue to exist as a person, team or company.

Perseverance at the core

The fact of “looking in the mouth of the “shark”” is the core of SalesQ. It is our right to exist. We train the Bethanys of the sales profession and help our clients to find new customers. Our talents have enormous perseverance. Bring on that shark! Well, sometimes it is scary and now and then he nibbles on your toe or you might get bitten, but we never give up. We keep going to stay ahead of the shark because we know that even if it bites our arm off, we can survive and still be successful!

Sales is simply a matter of trial and error. You try a proven method and if it doesn't work right away, you try again. And again and again. Until it works. And you probably adjust little things in your pitch, your database or your timing along the way until you succeed. Under the guise of "I don't need easy, I need possible" you have grown, evolved, improved! And although the world is becoming more and more digitized, the demand for sales people who are not afraid of sharks remains high and so SalesQ always remains relevant!

The story of Bethany Hamilton is beautifully portrayed in the Netflix documentary Unstoppable. An absolute must!
